The San Ramon Police Department is one of the civic cornerstones of the city. Its goal is to work with the community to provide the highest level of public safety. As the forefront of San Ramon’s law enforcement, the Police Department interfaces with all groups and local communities including neighborhoods, schools, and businesses.

The San Ramon Police Department has 58 police officers and 20 civilian employees serving the city and its community. Its core values are service, responsiveness, integrity, professionalism, and safety. The city of San Ramon is 18 square miles and has a community that is 74,000 people. During the work week, the population swells by more than 21,000 people who come to the city to work every day.
The Police Department has four main divisions: investigative, patrol, SWAT, and traffic safety. The patrol division has a bicycle patrol, K9 unit, and police service technicians.
In its efforts to provide public safety services and take an active part in building community partnerships to fight crime, the San Ramon Police Department offers many programs for youth and adults. Youth programs include Explorer Scout Program and station tours. Adult programs are Citizens Academy, Ride Alongs, station tours, volunteer program, and Youth Academy.

San Ramon Fire Department
The San Ramon Fire Protection District serves the City of San Ramon and Contra Costa County communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, the Town of Danville, Diablo, the southern area of Morgan Territory, and the Tassajara Valley. The entire service area encompasses approximately 155 square miles and contains a population of 169,900 persons.
The San Ramon Fire Protection District was formed in 1963 to serve the area of San Ramon to the county line.
The emergency services provided by the San Ramon Fire Department include fire suppression, medical services, rescue and hazmat teams, pre-incident planning and tools and training. All personnel are professionally trained and certified.
Community outreach is an important aspect of the Fire Department’s interactions with local residents. There are several classes offered for new parents and cover CPR, using the fire extinguisher, personal preparedness, and wildfire preparedness. The Community Emergency Response Team or CERT program run by the Fire Department trains participants to assess risks and navigate hazards. Finally, general preparedness is addressed in the Be Ready SRV program.
