San Ramon is conveniently located close to San Francisco making a day trip to San Francisco an easy getaway. On the way to San Francisco you can stop in Oakland, the East Bay’s largest city. The entire trip is less than an hour’s drive one way to San Francisco. You can drive the whole way or make the drive to Oakland and take the ferry into San Francisco.

If you are stopping by Oakland on your way to San Francisco, the drive to San Francisco from Oakland takes only 20 minutes. You can also ride the San Francisco Bay Ferry into the city. When in San Francisco, take a trip to the world famous Chinatown, the oldest Chinatown in the world. San Francisco’s Chinatown is known for its restaurants and its unique and inexpensive shopping. Next, take the shopping up a notch by going to San Francisco's world-class Union Square. Union Square has shops like Emporio Armani, Diesel, Neiman Marcus, Saks and the Virgin Megastore. In Hayes Valley you’ll find a neighborhood filled with art galleries. The Mission District is another great Italian-inspired area with quaint European boutiques to browse through.

San Francisco is well known for its award-winning restaurants and fine wines. With the Napa Valley only a short drive away, San Francisco restaurants have access to some of the best wines in California. Seafood is a popular menu choice in the city’s restaurants by virtue of the access to the freshest catch. When you are in Oakland, make sure to visit Jack London Square. Oakland is one of the most important port cities and a major transportation hub in the United States. The city has a diverse population and is well known for its political activism. Jack London Square was named after the famous author who lived in Oakland. This urban center is by the waterfront and has many restaurants, activities, tours and shops to explore. The many events in the Square include dancing, fitness, movies, festivals, and much more.
