There are several public and private schools in San Ramon that offer excellent education, sports facilities and extracurricular activities. The public schools are run by the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) which is known for its high-performing schools.
San Ramon Valley Unified School District
The San Ramon Valley Unified School District includes the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, and San Ramon (including the new Dougherty Valley communities) as well as a small portion of the cities of Walnut Creek and Pleasanton. There are 35 schools in the district which serves more than 30,000 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.
The students in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District students are taught a Standards-based curriculum including learning language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Rigorous physical education, health, foreign language, technology, and visual and performing arts programs are also offered to students. Students graduating from district high schools are required to have earned 240 designated credits.
Academically, SRVUSD currently ranks 6th among all unified school districts in California, and is the highest ranking unified school district in the state with enrollments of 9,000 or more (California Academic Performance Index). Over 94% of graduating seniors attend college or university, and district students are accepted into the University of California and the California State University systems at rates far exceeding state averages. The district has received the State Department of Education's Distinguished Schools Award (schools in the district have received this honor more than 50 times, more than any other district in northern California), and recognition by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon Schools.
There are 18 preschools, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools in San Ramon. Of these 18 are public schools and 19 are private schools. San Ramon’s public schools rate a 10 out of 10 on the Great Schools site based on its public school tests.
