There are several malls near San Ramon in Contra Costa County that offer some excellent shopping opportunities. Most are a short drive by car in neighboring cities.
The brand-new Paragon Outlets Livermore Valley mall is technically in Livermore, but is conveniently located at the intersection of three neighboring cities: Livermore, Pleasanton, and Dublin. It is easily accessible to everyone in the Bay Area, the mall is only 40 miles from San Francisco and 16 miles from San Ramon.
There are 130 premium factory outlet stores in Paragon Outlet. The three anchor stores are Bloomingdale’s the Outlet Store, Last Call by Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th. There are several apparel stores including Banana Republic, Barney’s New York, Diesel, IZOD, Gap and Gap Kids, Kate Spade, and Nike.
Since opening weekend when Paragon Outlets Livermore Valley had more than 350,000 visitors, the mall has enjoyed a lot of attention and buzz from the media.
Broadway Plaza is an upscale shopping mall in downtown Walnut Creek, only 15 minutes from San Ramon. The open-air shopping center has an urban feel with fine landscaping and a city street cutting through it. Outdoor dining in the many restaurants adds to the urban feel.
Several mid- and high-end stores offer great places to shop, including Nordstrom, two Macy's, and Neiman Marcus. For a unique local gift store, try David M. Brian. Home furnishing staples such as Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and Tiffany's are also a big draw for shoppers.
Good food after hours of shopping is a nice treat. Choose from California Pizza Kitchen, P. F. Chang, and Stanford's Restaurant and Bar, and many more eateries at Broadway Plaza.
Parking could be a challenge. Shoppers have their tricks to beat the traffic, including arriving very early or very late, and using the valet service.
Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton, an 11-minute drive, is a favorite with the residents of the area. Its open environment makes it a pleasant experience to shop and dine here. The seating areas are inviting with home décor-like sofas and chairs placed in an inviting manner.
Some anchor stores are JC Penney, Macy's Men's, and Macy's Women's, Nordstrom, and Sears. There is also an H&M, Aldo, Coach, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Apple store at Stoneridge Mall.
Restaurants are situated near the entrances. Some big names are The Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang's China Bistro.
Parking is tight but available as is the convenient valet service. You can use valet parking near Macy's Women's and P.F. Chang's.
Blackhawk Plaza in Danville is a lovely outdoor mall in full view of majestic Mount Diablo. The immaculate landscaping surrounds fountains and streams. Blackhawk Plaza is just a few minutes from San Ramon.
With the Blackhawk Auto Museum located here, auto enthusiasts and museum lovers can browse the impressive collection of cars in some very creative settings. There is an automotive reference library and museum store. The other attractions at Blackhawk Plaza are the Century movie theater and the Blackhawk Gallery by the Alamo Danville Artists' Society.
Stores at Blackhawk Plaza include Claire's, Georgiou, and Anthropologie. There are several health and beauty services and specialty stores at the Plaza.
Dining choices include the Blackhawk Grille, Blue Ginko, and The Little Pear. Al fresco dining is popular at the mall.
For more than 40 years Sun Valley Mall in Concord has been a local favorite. A variety of mid- to high-end specialty shops dominate the large indoor mall. Sun Valley Mall is less than 20 minutes from San Ramon.

There is no food court at the mall, but several restaurants and quick eateries offer a variety of dining options. Restaurants include BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Tomi Sushi and Seafood Buffet, and Red Robin.
Parking is available relatively easily but you may have to walk a little.
The Willows Shopping Center also in Concord is a neighborhood shopping center that resembles a mall. It features fine landscaping with a fountain in the central area, including metal art work.
Stores include Cost Plus World Market, Old Navy, and REI. In addition, the Willows Theatre is an attraction for the connoisseurs of performing arts.
Restaurant options here are superior with El Torito, Benihana of Tokyo, Claim Jumper, Fuddruckers, and Tony Roma's.
